Benefits Of Niacinamide: What does Niacinamide Do for the skin?

WHAT IS NIACINAMIDE?
Niacinamide, or nicotinamide, is a type of vitamin B-3. It is commonly used as an active ingredient in skincare products and can be found naturally in foods like yeast, meat, and fish. Niacinamide helps build keratin and keep your skin firm and healthy.

Niacinamide is best known as a brightening ingredient (It interferes with the transfer of melanin, or pigment, in the skin meaning any melanin created from sun exposure or inflammation doesn’t make it to your skin’s surface.) When applied to the skin, niacinamide has been known to help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone.

With its ability to brighten skin, control oil, and soothe inflammation, niacinamide is having a moment as are the best niacinamide serum formulations. This shouldn’t be a total surprise. When it comes to active ingredients in skin care products, niacinamide is among the few that have years of research to back up their benefits, which has put it up there with household names like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and retinol.

BENEFITS OF NIACINAMIDE.

The benefits of niacinamide are multifaceted, meaning they work for just about every skin type out there.

1. Minimizes redness and blotchiness.

Niacinamide reduces inflammation, which may help ease redness from eczema, acne, and other inflammatory skin conditions.

2. Regulates oil.

The benefits of moisture retention aren’t just for those with dry skin types. Niacinimide can also help regulate the amount of oil the sebaceous glands produce and prevent your glands from going into overdrive.

3. Treats hyperpigmentation.

Research has found 5 percent niacinamide concentrations can be helpful in lightening dark spots. Benefits were seen after four weeks, but not beyond two months. This benefit may be due to increased collagen production.

4. It fights off harmful stressors.

UV rays, pollution, stress, lack of sleep, and other factors can all create free radicals which can damage healthy skin cells. This will lead to premature signs of aging like discoloration and wrinkles of the skin. Niacinamide has antioxidant properties which protects the skin from this damage or even reverse some of it.

5. Lessens irritation.

Niacinamide supports the use of potentially irritating anti-agers that increase skin cell turnover, including retinol and alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), such as glycolic acid. It soothes the skin and limit any irritation that can be caused by the stronger exfoliants.

6. Treats acne.

Niacinamide may be helpful for severe acne, especially inflammatory forms like papules and pustules. Over time, you may see fewer lesions and improved skin texture. It helps balance oil and sebum production to decrease breakouts in the skin
